HTC 7 Pro Review
Tuesday, October 25, 2011

The breakneck competition in the market has led to the launch of super smartphones which have I-can-do-it-all potential, thanks to the plethora of features that they are laced with. However, to steer off the impact of these wallet-busters, handset manufacturers are also coming up with feature-specific phones that emphasize on a particular area while keeping the other features at average level. Though, HTC 7 Pro has a bundle of features to offer, the company's emphasis on the keyboard hints that it is primarily a messaging device.

At a Glance:

Size: 117.5 x 59 x 15.5 mm
Weight: 185 g
Display: 3.6 inch, Capacitive touchscreen
Camera: 5 MP, with LED flash, No Secondary Camera
Memory: 8/16 GB storage, 448 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, No card slot
OS: Microsoft Windows Phone 7
Processor: 1 GHz processor
Data: GPRS, EDGE with Bluetooth and USB
3G: Yes
GPS: Yes
Wi-Fi: Yes
3.5 mm Jack

Design:

The set boasts quite an interesting design with a not so common frame and structure. It boasts a slide out full QWERTY keypad that is angled with respect to the display screen. The sliding mechanism may appear a bit awkward initially but with practice it becomes quite smooth to handle. The keys are quite big enough so that you can type easily on them without any problem; the illuminated keys also ensure that you can type in the dark. At 16 mm, the device is hardly sleek and the right mix of chrome and metal battery cover feels good to hold in hand.

Display:

The device boasts a 3.6 inch screen that is a step down from the 4.3 inch screen of its older sibling HD 7. There are Live tiles on the home screen, which help you access useful information such as unread messages and missed calls information. You can also go through the photo albums on your device with the help of these tiles which act as a shortcut.

Camera:

The phone is lacking the 8 MP camera that was present on its sibling the Mozart. The company has certainly made sacrifice with the 5 MP on board camera, though the compromise made in the pixel stuffing has been compensated to some extent with the inclusion of Microsoft's SkyDrive feature which helps you to upload your photos to a cloud storage service. This particular feature is even more important considering the fact that storage of the device is limited to 8GB.

Additional Features:

Being a Microsoft smartphone, the HTC 7 Pro supports many of the Office document features. With this device you can very easily manage your office documents such as MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. If the need arises you can create new office documents, and also edit documents. You can also setup multiple email accounts such as Windows Live and Gmail with considerable ease.

The slick Microsoft’s Metro UI offers amazing experience to the users and the phone gives you silky smooth and considerably fast performance thanks to its 1GHz processor. This OS is certainly more posh in comparison to Android but does not possess some of the useful features like multitasking for the apps which are not already installed.

Conclusion:

HTC 7 Pro is undoubtedly a great messaging device and that is what it is. The set has a decent battery life and can go for long hours of talk-time on a single charge. At the risk of being repetitive we would like to re-emphasize the fact that keyboard is very easy to use. The display of the set is sharp and quite responsive. In-spite of it being a little heavy device, it is quite comfortable to hold in hand and is undoubtedly, one of the best Windows Phone handsets available in the market.
